Play with Clay - Family Pottery

My four 'Play with Clay' sessions at Dalby Forest  over half term were hugely enjoyable. The room overlooking the outdoor play area has great views and provided quiet space for families to take a break and enjoy time together. Dalby Forest advertises events on Dalby Facebook

Bone China Mugs Drystone Wall designs © J Hayton

I made drawings of several drystone walls in the North York Moors, noting how the construction changes according to the local stone.  I have three designs, at present, Levisham & Levisham, Hutton Le Hole, and Appleton le Moors.

professional drystone waller bought the 'Appleton Le Moors' design during the North Yorkshire Open Studios and laughingly declared whoever built it was a disgrace !

My work is primarily decorative. Some inspired by my locality such as the bird plaques and drystone wall design, others by my interests and connections like the Chinese papercut range and the small folk pieces.

Porcelain Christmas decorations

Small vases featuring Chinese papercuts
These large paper cuts were bought on my trip to China and are usually bought to decorate homes when there is a wedding. The symbol is "double happiness". In China traditionally the bride would wear red but western white is increasingly popular. My tile combines the two colours/cultures.
